Getting there

Two Ways In

By Ferry

The free Galveston–Bolivar Ferry takes about 20 minutes and runs 24 hours, with less service overnight. Arrive early on summer weekends.

By Road

Take TX-87 through High Island to skip the ferry if you’re coming from the Houston–Beaumont area.

When to Visit

SpringMar – May

One of the best times: warm, not brutal, with manageable crowds and great fishing.

SummerJun – Aug

Peak season with the warmest water, and the longest ferry lines.

FallSep – Nov

Another favorite. Note the Lone Star Rally brings big crowds each November.

WinterDec – Feb

Quiet and mild, ideal for birding, fishing and long empty-beach walks.
