Your dog is part of the family, so they should come to the beach too. Here’s how to plan a Galveston trip with your pup, from beach rules and dog-friendly patios to pet friendly vacation rentals in Galveston that are ready for four-legged guests.
Galveston Beaches for Dogs
Leashed dogs are welcome on Galveston’s public beaches. Keep your dog on a leash of 6 feet or less, pick up after them, and leave glass at home, since glass containers aren’t allowed on the beach.
East Beach
A wide stretch on the east end with pavilions, a boardwalk, restrooms and showers to rinse off sandy paws.
The Seawall
More than 10 miles of sidewalk along the Gulf, perfect for a sunrise or sunset walk.
West End beaches
Quieter sand and fewer crowds, a good fit for dogs who get nervous around a lot of people.
Sand gets hot fast, even in fall. Plan beach time for early morning or evening, and bring fresh water. Dogs shouldn’t drink salt water.
Dog Parks & Places to Walk
Lindale Dog Park
An off-leash park where dogs of all sizes can run and play.
Kempner Park
Shady, roomy and good for an easy leashed walk and a picnic.
Menard Park
A nice stop for a leashed walk near the Seawall.
Dog-Friendly Patios
Plenty of island restaurants welcome well-behaved dogs on their patios. A few favorites:
Brewchachos Tacos & Cantina
Tacos on a dog-friendly patio, with trivia on Thursdays and live music on Fridays.
Galveston Island Brewing
A West End craft brewery just a block from the water.
Waterman’s Restaurant
Seafood and some of the best sunset views on the island.
Need supplies or a bath after the beach? Wagabonz has treats, toys and grooming, and Salty Dog Wash is the island’s self-serve dog wash.
Patio rules can change with the weather or the season. A quick call before you go saves a wasted trip.
What to Pack for Your Dog
For the beach
A 6-foot leash, waste bags, a water bowl and a towel for sandy paws.
For the house
Their bed or crate, food, treats and a favorite toy so they settle in fast.
Just in case
Vaccination records and the number of a local vet.
How Our Pet Policy Works
Many Pacific Properties homes in Galveston, Jamaica Beach and Crystal Beach welcome pets. Most charge a $125 fee per pet, per stay, and allow up to 2 pets. Some homes also have a 50-pound limit, so check the listing before you book.
Include every pet on your reservation so the home is ready for them. Service animals are always welcome and aren’t charged a pet fee.
